One of the nonprofit organizations that we regularly aid is Move For Hunger. For those that don’t know, Move For Hunger is an organization that donates nonperishable food items to starving families in need of care. At Ridgewood Moving Services (Ridgewood Moving), we do our part in helping Move For Hunger by collecting nonperishable food items from our clients during a move. We also transport this food to local New Jersey food banks to make sure that families will be fed!

However, we are only one group of people that aid Move For Hunger. For example, check out this awesome story about two groups of students from The Urban Assembly, which was featured on Move For Hunger’s blog! The post is all about how students donated their time by holding a food drive for starving families in their community! If we’re going to fight world hunger, it’s important to have the youth of America make a difference like this. Here’s an excerpt from the original blog post on Move For Hunger’s website:

This past December, the student body of the Urban Assembly School’s criminal justice division, held a food drive that brought in 200 pounds of food; with no way to transport the donations to the local food bank, Move for Hunger was able to connect the school with U.Santini Moving & Storage, a moving company that generously donated its time and resources to ensure the donations made it to the food bank after the event.

In April, Move For Hunger will work with Shore Regional High School’s Interact club to hold a fill-a-truck event. The students of Interact will arrange for a moving truck to park in front of a local grocery store and will challenge the community to fill it with non perishable food items.

The physical donations that events like these bring in are fantastic; the food insecurity awareness that they raise among the student body is simply spectacular; showing students how simple it is to energize the community and make a difference in the fight against hunger is invaluable. The Move For Hunger team is extremely appreciative to work in tandem with organizations that go the extra mile to end not only childhood hunger, but hunger in general.

If you feel inspired to help, then check out Move For Hunger’s website for more information. Also, keep Move For Hunger in mind if you plan on moving with us! If you load nonperishable food items in a box with a provided Move For Hunger sticker as our client, we will be happy to transfer your food to Move For Hunger. It’s that simple!
